Chionoecetes Collection Efforts for Growth Study

2019

The BSFRF continues cooperative research with NOAA Fisheries Alaska Fisheries Science Center, studying the growth rates of crab species to inform better predictions related to crab abundance. In April 2017, the BSFRF chartered a vessel for the collection of juvenile Chionoecetes species to study the growth rates of Tanner crab and snow crab in different size classes. This work marked the continuation of this research and growth collection efforts. The first year of the project focused on snow crab in 2011. In 2015 the collection efforts resumed and the growth study project has been an annual BSFRF activity ever since.
