2009-present Generic Crab Model Research

2019

BSFRF is funding portions of the cooperative development of a generic crab model and this research is an ongoing effort. Dr. Mark Maunder is the principal researcher and has completed the first phase (background review) of this work. Phase two (generic model architecture) is progressing currently and plans for phase three (model development/coding) are expected to be underway soon. Development of a generic crab model is expected to yield a well-documented, user-friendly model framework with a diverse set of applications for improvement of Bering Sea crab stock assessment and modeling. Cooperation on this model development involves crab biologists, fishery managers, and modeling statisticians from NMFS AFSC, ADF&G, University of Washington as well stakeholder input via the BSFRF.
