About BSFRF

Tim Loher

Timothy Loher holds a BS in biology and secondary education from the State University of New York at Geneseo, an MS in marine ecology from Northeastern University, Boston, and a PhD in fisheries from the University of Washington, Seattle. His PhD dissertation focused on early life history of red king crabs and stock dynamics in Bristol Bay, Alaska.  He has also conducted research on marine invertebrates in the Gulf of Maine, Caribbean reef ecosystems, feeding ecology and the effects of low oxygen on oyster reef fish in the Chesapeake Bay, effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Prince William Sound, and spent more than 20 years as a Research Scientist at the International Pacific Halibut Commission studying the life history and behavioral ecology of Pacific halibut.  He joined BSFRF as a Science Advisor in the spring of 2023.
